Gold Vermeil and Gold Plated the difference explained

I have just started to use a little Gold Vermeil in my pieces as I have forever loved the look of Gold and Silver together.  Although we have begun only with ear hooks I will be using more and more Gold Vermeil.   I am using Vermeil as it has the beautiful appearance of solid gold, however is much less expensive.

So why Vermeil and not Gold Plated.

Vermeil is a little more expensive than Gold Plated because the coating of precious metal is 50 times ticker, in addition, plated gold often features a core of cheaper copper rather than sterling silver,

The Gold Vermeil i have chosen to use is 24karat.  To create the vermeil sterling silver is covered in a layer of gold thats at least 10 karats and 1.5 microns thick.  We use 24 karats and 3 microns thick.  To the naked eye vermeil looks like pure gold and can be polished for a stunning glossy look.

Treasure your Vermeil pieces by not treating with any chemical product as they may remove the gold.  Store in a lined jewellery box, and never swim or shower while wearing it.
